A hemodialysis catheter is a flexible plastic tube placed into a large vein to move blood between your body and a dialysis machine when your kidneys cannot clean your blood.

Short term or (Temporary Catheter ): Placed directly into a vein (usually in the neck) for short-term use lasting up to a few weeks, mostly in hospitals.
The tube has two internal paths called lumens (usually marked red and blue).One path (arterial/red) pulls blood out of your body to go to the machine.The second path (venous/blue) returns the cleaned blood back into your body.
